Pats Hunter Henry disputes overturned TD, says hand was under ball
MINNESOTA -- New England Patriots tight end Hunter Henrys 6-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter was overturned by instant replay Thursday night, a decision that left him perplexed following a 33-26 loss to the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium. I believe I caught it, Henry said late Thursday night in the Patriots locker room. He said it hit the ground. But I believe my hand was under the ball. The hand was under the ball, with hitting the ground, thats what kind of caused it to jump up. They made the call. Just got to live with it. On the third-and-goal play from the 6-yard line, quarterback Mac Jones fired a pass near the goal line to Henry, who was covered by Vikings defensive back Chandon Sullivan. Henry had both hands on the ball as he lunged toward the goal line. Officials initially ruled it a touchdown, before overturning the call to an incomplete pass following a lengthy review. A touchdown would have given...

Bills ride roller-coaster finish to win over Lions
DETROIT -- Its in the biggest moments, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs said while wearing a Dog bone necklace, when he feels the most comfortable. And that paid off for the Bills in a big way in the teams 28-25 Thanksgiving Day win over the Detroit Lions. After surrendering a five-point lead in the fourth quarter, the Bills offense responded with back-to-back scoring drives, including a 21-second game-winning drive that ended in a 45-yard field goal by kicker Tyler Bass. Bass made the kick after missing an extra point attempt on the previous drive that allowed the Lions to tie the score. I dont think you understand how big it is for a guy to do that in this league, quarterback Josh Allen said. For [Bass] just to feel that roller coaster of emotions to go step up and build up for our team and nail it. Bass made the kick with seven seconds remaining. He made all six of his field goal attempts the previous week and went 2 for...
Colts Jim Irsay to critics: Frank Reich firing not personal
INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay pushed back on recent characterizations of his handling of the teams coaching change and firing of coach Frank Reich, telling ESPN, Its not personal. Its the very opposite from being personal. Irsays comments were prompted in part by statements made by Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni, a former Colts assistant and Reich mentee, who offered passionate postgame comments after Sundays win over the Colts in Indianapolis and was captured on video after the 17-16 victory yelling into the Lucas Oil Stadium crowd, That s--- was for Frank Reich. In his postgame news conference, Sirianni added, You dont want to know what I think of if he should be here or not, but you guys can probably imagine what I really think. Irsay, who also has been bothered by some portrayals of his decision to hire Jeff Saturday as an interim coach, offered a strong defense of his decisions surrounding the coaching change. Frank...

He spent several minutes in the medical tent on the sideline before being carted off and taken to the locker room. Artem Lobov sues Conor McGregor over Proper No. Twelve whiskey brand
Conor McGregors longtime teammate and friend is suing him for millions, claiming he was instrumental in launching McGregors Proper No. Twelve whiskey brand. Artem Lobov, a UFC veteran, filed a lawsuit in Irelands High Court on Tuesday, asserting that he was a founder of the company and has not been given his fair piece of the revenue generated by the very successful whiskey, Lobovs attorney, Dermot McNamara, confirmed with ESPN on Thursday. The Independent was the first to report the news. The Irish newspaper reported that Lobov is seeking 5% of the proceeds McGregor got from selling Proper No. Twelve to Jose Cuervos parent company last year. McGregor and partners reportedly garnered $600 million in the sale. The Independent reported that Lobovs case will attempt to show that there was a deal in place for Lobov to get a percentage, but it was not honored. I cannot make any comment at this stage except to say that we intend to apply in the next few weeks to have the case...

Katie Meyers family files wrongful death suit against Stanford
The parents of Katie Meyer, a star soccer goalie who died by suicide last spring, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Stanford on Wednesday. At the time of her death Meyer, 21, was facing disciplinary action for allegedly spilling coffee on a Stanford football player who was accused of sexually assaulting a female soccer player. Meyers father said his daughter was defending that teammate, who was a minor at the time. The lawsuit states that on the night of her death, Stanford negligently and recklessly sent her the formal disciplinary notice that contained threatening language regarding sanctions and potential removal from the university. On the night of Feb. 28, Meyer FaceTimed her parents and two sisters from her dorm room at Stanford and was in a good mood, according to her mom. They were coordinating her plans for spring break, which included a stop home in Southern California before a few days in Mexico with friends. However, her parents say that later that...
Devils team record-tying 13-game run ends in 2-1 loss to Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs snapped New Jerseys 13-game winning streak on Wednesday night, 2-1, leaving the Devils one win shy of a franchise record. John Tavares and Pontus Holmberg had first-period goals for the Leafs. Dougie Hamilton had the Devils lone goal with 5:08 left in the third period. Toronto goalie Matt Murray made 34 saves and was the beneficiary of three New Jersey goals that were disallowed -- the third of which caused fans to litter the ice in protest in the third period, forcing the Leafs to briefly retreat to the locker room area for safety. You dont often see three in one game. But we saw three in one game, said Devils coach Lindy Ruff. The Devils tied a franchise record with 13 consecutive wins when they defeated the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night. New Jersey previously won 13 straight games from Feb. 16 to March 23, 2001. The current streak started Oct. 25 and fueled New Jerseys stunning surge to the...
Packers Aaron Rodgers confirms right thumb is broken
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Aaron Rodgers never felt the need to get into details about his right thumb injury for one reason: It was never going to keep the Green Bay Packers quarterback from playing. Thats why it wasnt until Wednesday when he finally -- and reluctantly -- confirmed that it was indeed broken. It doesnt make a difference with me playing, Rodgers said. It doesnt make a difference. You saw the tape on my thumb. Didnt make a difference. Rodgers has been dealing with the injury since he was sacked by Giants linebacker Oshane Ximines on the final play of the Packers Oct. 9 game in London. Rodgers attempted a Hail Mary, but Ximines hit Rodgers throwing arm and forced a fumble. Immediately after the play, Rodgers came up flexing his right hand. Rodgers was asked specifically on Oct. 26 if his thumb was broken. He replied at the time: My thumb is hurt. Even when Pat McAfee asked Rodgers on Tuesday during his weekly appearance on McAfees...
Bryce Harper undergoes elbow surgery as Phillies map out recovery
Philadelphia Phillies slugger Bryce Harper had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Wednesday, according to the team. The procedure was performed byDr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. The Phillies said Harper is expected to return as a hitter only by the All-Star break and could return to playing right field by the end of the regular season. Phillies president Dave Dombrowski had told reporters last week that Harper would have the elbow surgery, although it wasnt known if it would be of the Tommy John variety. We have no prognosis, really, until [the surgeon] goes into the elbow and takes a look at it, Dombrowski said then. Harper tore his UCL in April, and it prevented him from playing in the field the rest of the season. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his right elbow in May and shifted to the designated hitter role thereafter.

Benched QB Zach Wilson apologizes to Jets for postgame comments
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- On the day he lost his starting job in a dramatic quarterback shake-up, Zach Wilson tried to win back his New York Jetsteammates with an apology. Under heavy criticism from fans and media, Wilson spoke to the entire team on Wednesday, admitting he botched Sundays postgame news conference -- the one in which he refused to take accountability for his poor performance in a loss to the New England Patriots. I had a sick feeling in my stomach, he said, alluding to the uproar he caused. That game, combined with what coach Robert Saleh called a deterioration of basic fundamentals, led to Wilsons benching. Mike White will start Sunday against the Chicago Bears at MetLife Stadium. Joe Flacco will be the No. 2 quarterback; Wilson will be inactive. Wilson, acknowledging his poor play, didnt question Salehs decision. Speaking to the team, he expressed support for White but also vowed to win his job back, players...
KUs Bill Self excited in his return from four-game suspension
PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas -- Bill Self couldnt wait to get started Wednesday at the Battle 4 Atlantis. Neither could hot-shooting Kansasrookie Gradey Dick. Dick scored a season-high 25 points to help the third-ranked Jayhawks beat NC State 80-74 in Wednesdays tournament opener, giving Self a successful return to the bench after a four-game suspension. Dick had 18 points on six 3-pointers in the first half before going 1 for 8 from the field after halftime. Jalen Wilson added 19 points and 11 rebounds for the reigning national champion Jayhawks (5-0), who blew an eight-point halftime lead and a nine-point second-half lead before grinding it out. I think it really just showed what our teams about and in crunch time, we can come out with tough plays when we really need it, Dick said. It also helped, Dick said, to have a Hall of Famer in our corner again. Kansas had imposed the suspension on Self and assistant Kurtis Townsend as...

Rams Matthew Stafford (protocol, neck) ruled out for Week 12
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is in the concussion protocol and will not play on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefsbecause of a neck injury, head coach Sean McVay said on Wednesday. McVay said Stafford felt some numbness in his legs after taking a hit in Week 11 against the New Orleans Saints, a game Stafford was playing in two days after he was cleared from the concussion protocol. Stafford is in the concussion protocol, McVay said, as a result of some of those evaluations [this week] and because we pulled him out of the game. McVay made it clear that even though Stafford is in the concussion protocol, it doesnt mean the quarterback has been diagnosed with a concussion. McVay said after Stafford was evaluated for a concussion on Sunday against the Saints, we wanted to take a conservative approach to take him out of the game as a result of some of those symptoms that he was having. McVay said the...
Bears QB Justin Fields says he has separated left shoulder
LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fieldssaid Wednesday that he is dealing with an injury to the acromioclavicular joint in his left shoulder and will evaluate how he feels later this week before determining whether hell play against the New York Jets. Its a separated shoulder with partially torn ligaments, Fields said, describing his injury. Basically, like an AC joint. Thats my understanding of it. The quarterback landed on his left shoulder after he was tackled by Atlanta Falcons cornerback Dee Alford on a first-down run with 1:47 to play in Chicagos 27-24 loss at Atlanta. The Bears continue to classify him as day-to-day and are leaving the door open for Fields to play Sunday. Well see where it goes, and then when we get to tomorrow, well know more, and I think by Friday well know more, coach Matt Eberflus said. Its kind of one of those things, you work through the week, and well see where it is and...
Sources: Eagles hire ex-Colts OC Marcus Brady as consultant
PHILADELPHIA -- The Eagles have hired former Colts offensive coordinator Marcus Brady as a consultant, according to league sources. Brady, 43, is working primarily with defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon and his staff, offering perspective as an offensive coach on how he would attack the Eagles defense, a source said. Having coached in Indianapolis alongside coach Nick Sirianni for three seasons, Brady would have intimate knowledge of some of the offensive principles the Eagles employ, seeing as Siriannis time in Indianapolis played a big role in shaping the Eagles coach. The Eagles and Colts played last week, with Philadelphia edging Indianapolis 17-16. Brady came to Philadelphia last week to discuss a potential role with the team, according to a league source. The Eagles waited until early this week to hire him, given the sensitivity around the game, the source added. Brady coached the quarterbacks when Sirianni was the Colts offensive coordinator...

Joe Burrow expects JaMarr Chase to play after Bengals WR practices
CINCINNATI -- Bengals wide receiver JaMarr Chase returned to practice Wednesday ahead of his potential return to the field Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. Chase practiced for the first time since a hip injury forced the wideout to miss three games. Chase participated in drills during the portion of practice open to the media, catching a variety of passes from quarterback Joe Burrow. Burrow said Chase ran Tuesday and is on track to play this weekend. We expect him to play, Burrow said. I know he ran yesterday and he felt good. So well see how it goes the rest of the week. Chase hasnt played since the Bengals Week 7 win over the Atlanta Falcons, when he had eight catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns. At the time, ESPNs Adam Schefter reported that Chase could be out four to six weeks. Sunday would mark five weeks since Chase last played. Luka Doncic lauds Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown as NBAs best duo
BOSTON -- Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic had high praise for the Celtics star tandem of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown ahead of Wednesdays game in Boston. Theyre probably the No. 1 team in the league, and they probably have the best duo in the league, too, Doncic said. And were in the Garden -- its always a special game. You have to come 100 percent. If youre not, youre probably going to lose. Its a big game. Doncic, in his fifth NBA season, enters Wednesdays game (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN) as the NBAs leading scorer at 33.5 points per game while also averaging 9.1 rebounds, 8.1 assists and 1.9 steals. Just watching their game, Doncic said. I think a lot of people can see that. I...

Texans bench QB Davis Mills in favor of Kyle Allen, source confirms
The Houston Texans have benched starting quarterback Davis Mills, with backup quarterback Kyle Allen stepping in for Sundays game against the Miami Dolphins, a source confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday. The benching comes on the heels of Mills worst performance of the season Sunday in a 23-10 loss to the Washington Commanders. Against the Commanders, Mills completed 57.6% of his passes for 169 yards and two interceptions, including a pick-six on the opening drive. Texans coach Lovie Smith had declined to name a starting quarterback during his Wednesday news conference, saying he didnt want to give the opponent an advantage. NFL Network first reported that Allen would start against the Dolphins. The Texans had hoped Mills, a 2021 third-round pick out of Stanford, could become the quarterback of the future after showing promise in his rookie year. But he has struggled through his sophomore year, with hiscompletion percentage...
Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire to IR with high ankle sprain
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Chiefs will be without second-leading rusher Clyde Edwards-Helaire for at least the next four games after placing him on the injured reserve list Wednesday. Edwards-Helaire suffered a high ankle sprain in the Chiefs 30-27 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night. Edwards-Helaire, who has rushed for 302 yards and three touchdowns, lost his starting job and a lot of his playing time earlier in the season to rookie Isiah Pacheco. Edwards-Helaire also has 17 catches for 151 yards and three receiving touchdowns. Pacheco rushed for 107 yards against the Chargers and took over the team lead in rushing from Edwards-Helaire with 386 this season. The Chiefs have Pacheco, Jerick McKinnon and Ronald Jones at running back. Jones, who signed with the Chiefs this year as a free agent after four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has been inactive for the Chiefs first 10 games this season...
